Profiles
These are sets of predominantly demographic information that have been analysed and written up, illustrated by charts and tables of data. They are based on particular areas (e.g. 19 local community areas, one profile for each) or themes (e.g. ACORN, one profile for each of the 10 ACORN groups).
The profiles can be used to inform decisions relating to the planning of all sorts of services. At the very least the profiles give population numbers which can be used in working out the cost of supplying a service to a specific number of people. The demographic and social characteristics can help with tailoring your service to match the characteristics of the population of Buckinghamshire.
If you are interested in targeting your service at particular groups of people the profiles are useful in finding out where these people are. In this instance it would also be useful to go to the mapstore on this website and look at a map of the characteristic you are interested in (e.g. deprived areas) to see where the deprived areas are to make sure you are targeting your service in the right geographical areas.
The information is helpful for backing funding bids where you may need to prove that the number of people with a particular characteristic live in Buckinghamshire or within a specific community area.
Buckinghamshire Profile
This area contains social, demographic and economic information about the population at county level. There are written profiles and an accompanying datasheet which compares the information for Buckinghamshire with the English average in tables and charts. The profiles and datasheets were written in 2008/9 and 2008 respectively.
Local Community Profile
Local community areas are used as building blocks for service planning, delivery and community engagement of the county council. There are 19 geographical local community areas and there is profile for each one. There is a written analysis of each area and an accompanying datasheet which compares the area with the Buckinghamshire average in tables and charts. The profiles were written in 2008 and will be updated when new information becomes available.
Electoral Division Profiles
Electoral divisions are the building blocks used to elect local government councillors. There are 47 electoral divisions in Buckinghamshire and there is profile for each one. There is a written analysis of demographic and social characteristics illustrated by charts and tables comparing the division to the county average. The profiles were written in 2009 and will be updated again in 2013 in time for the next county election.
Bucks ACORN Profiles
A Classification of Residential Neighbourhoods (ACORN) shows the distinct groups of people that live within Buckinghamshire. The county is made up of 10 groups of households whose residents all have very different demographic characteristics and lifestyles, which generally means that each group has different service needs.
This is a set of 10 profiles, one for each ACORN group. Each profile describes the demographic and social make-up of each ACORN group and includes charts and tables relating to usage and satisfaction with services. The profiles were written in 2009 and will be updated again in a couple of years.
Health Profiles
This is a set of 5 profiles; one for the county and one for each of the four districts. The profiles give a snapshot of health in each area. It is designed to help local government and primary care trusts tackle health inequalities and improve people’s health. Health Profiles are produced by the Association of Public Health Observatories and funded by the Department of Health. The profiles were produced in 2009 and are updated annually.
