Training for Staff and Volunteers

Training has an essential role to play in preventing abuse, raising awareness,
and ensuring everyone responds appropriately and promptly to concerns.
The Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Board (BSVAB) has
produced guidance on training requirements and employs a training manager
to support and advise organisations and individuals.
Training Strategy

Approved by BSVA Board December 2010
This Training Strategy has been developed by the training committee of the
BSVAB. It sets out the training required to raise awareness of abuse and
effectively implement the Buckinghamshire multi-agency safeguarding
vulnerable adults procedures.
The strategy includes an overview of recommended training, who needs the
different levels of training and how training can be accessed. The Training Strategy document
can be downloaded below.

Handbook and CD-ROM
This is a resource especially designed for volunteers. It can be used by individual volunteers or by organisations to support their training. It covers the basics of understanding, recognising and responding to adult abuse. The learning resource
is available free-of-charge from BSVAB and consists of a Handbook and CD-ROM.

Safeguarding Training and Development Manager
The training manager is responsible for co-ordinating multi-agency training across Buckinghamshire.
This includes the following tasks.
- Advising agencies on their training responsibilities
- Providing support to in-house trainers through the standardisation group
- Monitoring and evaluating training
- Chairing the training sub committee of the BSVAB
